Maui ( Beaches )

Honolua Bay

Kaihalu Red Beach

Peahi Beach Jaws

Located on Maui’s northwestern coast just five minutes past Kapalua, Honolua Bay is one of the island’s most loved and legendary spots. Summer is a time when snorkelers flock to the tranquil, turquoise cove, where colorful coral heads burst from the reef and schools of reef fish nibble algae off the shells of Hawaiian Green sea turtles.

Peahi Beach Jaws

Kaihalu Red Beach

Peahi Beach Jaws

This surf mecca is nicknamed Jaws for good reason. From November to March, monstrous swells can reach up to 70 feet pushing speeds of 30 miles per hour. Its thunderous roar rattles surrounding fields of sugarcane and pineapple. The reef and rock formation underneath increases the wave’s magnitude and forms massive barrels. The unpredictable break shifts at a moment’s notice and being caught and rag-dolled in its impact zone poses frightful and hazardous risks. Simply put, immense training is required.

Kaihalu Red Beach

Kaihalu Red Beach

Kaihalu Red Beach

Kaihalulu has a protected cove that’s perfect for snorkeling and wading, as whitecaps thunderously crash on the rocks that form the barrier to the cove. For some of the island’s daredevil youth, a popular activity at Kaihalulu Beach is jumping off the 15 ft. rocks, and ceremoniously splashing in the waters that sparkle with every shade of blue.

Maui ( Beaches )

Kaanapali Beach

Kaanapali Beach

Kaanapali Beach

. Located in West Maui, Kaʻanapali Beach was once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty and today is often called one of the best beaches on Maui, thanks to its wide array of beach activities, including seasonal parasailing, surfing, volleyball and sailing. On the north end of the beach is Black Rock, a renowned snorkeling destination and home to a cliff diving ceremony that happens every day at sunset.

Keawakapu Beach

Kaanapali Beach

Kaanapali Beach

Keawakapu has consistently good swimming conditions year-round, and its abundance of soft, white sand lends equally well to sunbathers and children wishing to build a sandcastle empire. An underwater reef just off the right side of the beach also offers a great snorkeling opportunity.

Kapalua Beach

Kaanapali Beach

Kapalua Beach

Kapalua Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the state. In fact, this northwestern beach, located mere minutes from the historic whaling port of Lahaina, has consistently ranked among the top beaches in the nation by numerous travel publications. And it’s little wonder why Kapalua remains a favorite beach for many families with young children. The calm waters offer great swimming, and natural tide pools give children the opportunity to see sea creatures up close.

Maui ( Beaches )

Kahekili Beach

Kahekili Beach

Kahekili Beach

An extension of Kaanapali Beach, Kahekili Beach is actually separated from the busier and bigger Kaanapali by 250 yards of lava rock and a hotel. Named after the last king of Maui, Kahekili Beach is an ideal spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Napili Beach

Kahekili Beach

Kahekili Beach

Napili Bay is well known for its golden sand, great snorkeling and picture-perfect sunsets. Located in Lahaina next to the Napili Kai Resort

Kauai ( Beaches )

Hanalei Bay

Hanalei Bay

Hanalei Bay

Located on Kauai’s North Shore, Hanalei Bay is a beach like no other. With more than two miles of soft white sand and set among a backdrop of majestic mountains, Hanalei offers a little bit of paradise for everyone. Experienced surfers have the luxury of large waves, while beginners are treated to smaller waves that lap closer to the reef.

Tunnels Bay

Hanalei Bay

Hanalei Bay

One of the best snorkeling destinations on Kauai, especially during the summer months when the ocean is at its calmest. Running two miles long from Hanalei Colony Resort to Haena Beach Park, this North Shore beach is famous for its huge half moon-shaped reef located just 1/8-mile offshore.

Poipu Beach

Hanalei Bay

Poipu Beach

Crowned America’s Best Beach by The Travel Channel, Poipu Beach is naturally split into two smaller bays by a sand bar, which usually is the napping spot of a Hawaiian monk seal. To the west of the sand bar is what is known as Baby Beach, a protected cove perfect for very young children.

Kauai ( Beaches )

Kiahuna Beach

Mahaulepu Beach

Mahaulepu Beach

Garden Isle’s most popular beaches, largely due to the fact that Kiahuna presents an ideal spot for swimmers, beginner surfers, boogie boarders and, on occasion when the weather conditions are right, snorkelers.

Mahaulepu Beach

Mahaulepu Beach

Mahaulepu Beach

Popular destination for windsurfers, snorkelers, swimmers, fishers and sunbathers. The undeveloped shoreline offers miles of exploring, including a fascinating hike that goes past geological and cultural sites found along a coastal trail.

Big Island ( Beaches )

Hapuna Beach

Maniniowali Beach

Maniniowali Beach

Hapuna Beach, located just north of Kona, for many reasons. First and foremost, the beach features a long stretch of soft sand that leads to clear ocean water. Swimming conditions are usually excellent here, and skilled snorkelers can go nearly a mile down the coast to reach Wailea Bay.

Maniniowali Beach

Maniniowali Beach

Maniniowali Beach

Maniniowali Beach is sometimes called “The Caribbean of Hawaii,” thanks in part to its fine white-sand beaches that gently slope toward the crystal-clear water. The crescent-shaped beach is one of the best places for swimming when the water is calm, usually during the morning hours.

Makalawena Beach

Maniniowali Beach

Makalawena Beach

Makalawena is via a 20-minute hike across an unpaved lava path, the beach often is uncrowded. In this case, it pays to travel “off the beaten path,” as Makalawena is one of the Big Island’s most spectacular beaches, with sand soft as powder and water so clear it shimmers in the sun.

Big Island ( Beaches )

Mauna Kea Beach

Mauna Kea Beach

Mauna Kea Beach

Mauna Kea Beach is truly one of the Big Island’s most exceptional destinations. The sand at Mauna Kea Beach, also known as Kaunaoa Beach, extends for almost a quarter of a mile, forming a perfect crescent shape in front of the Mauna Kea Resort.

Waialea Bay

Mauna Kea Beach

Mauna Kea Beach

Waialea Bay is one of the island’s most popular beaches, though it is not particularly easy to access. The beach itself actually erodes due to strong surf in the winter months, so the best time to visit is during the summer when it is pristine. The bay’s diversity of marine life is among the best in all of Kawaihae Bay, making it a favorite site for snorkel and scuba activities.
